Don't You Want Kate Smith Cancelled?!

Well, we hope we got your attention with that headline. That was the idea! Now what are we talking about? As you know, great American celebrities have been honored posthumously with a commemorative stamp. It is hard to believe, but our Kate, a true American treasure and patriot, has never received this honore. It is time for this oversight to be corrected.

On May 1, 2007, we will celebrate the 100th anniversary of Kate's birthday. Our goal is to have a stamp issued on May 1, 2007, from both Washington, D.C. (her birthplace) and New York City (her home for so many years). Now you may think that is a long way off, but you know how slow the mail is these days. So let's begin now!!

We will need a concerted effort if we are to make this happen. Here is a form letter addressed to the U.S. Postal Service Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee to facilitate the process. Of course, you can write your own letter, too, and remember, one letter will not do! To insure this happens, we will need to inundate them with letters. So get the family, neighbors, friends, co-workers, etc., involved. This effort will be one of the Kate Smith Commemorative Society's key goals for 2005.

When we see some of the people honored who had far less talent and definitely less patriotism, we know we must act.

Our President, Raymond Wood, has stated that is is our responsibility to ensure that what Kate stood for, her vast talent and her love of America, must never be forgotten. This is a fantastic way for the country to remember Kathryn Elizabeth Smith, "The God Bless America" lady.

AND LOOK! Other countries have Kate Smith stamps!
